Inspired by the International initiative that started in Amsterdam, Eco Living Community organized a series of Repair Cafes as a pilot project in the summer of 2023 in partnership with the Prince George Public Library and the generous support of the Prince George Community Foundation. The goal was to bring awareness to the Right to Repair movement by understanding how intentional product design influences product repairability, teaching people the skills to repair and be self-sufficient, diverting broken items from landfill that can be repaired by giving them a second life, developing a shared tool library for people to have access to repair tools, and creating a community around repair.

With the overwhelming positive response, the ELC Repair Cafes have continued to this day, with 12 Repair Cafes organized, 195 items received, and 138 fixed for a total 70% diversion rate. ELC also purchased two sewing and bike repair kits to donate to the Prince George Public library to add to their collection. We are excited to continue our work – and hope that you will join us!
